How Expats Can Claim Dental Benefits Through Thai SSO (2026 Updates)

Are you a foreigner working in Thailand looking for English-speaking dentists in Bangkok who accept Social Security? Many expats miss out on valuable dental benefits simply because they don't know how to use them. As of May 1, 2026, the Thai Social Security Office (SSO) has majorly upgraded its dental coverage. This guide explains how to claim your annual benefits and navigate the new pay-and-claim reimbursement process.

What Are the New Thailand SSO Dental Benefits for Expatriates?

The Thai Social Security Office provides essential oral healthcare coverage for eligible foreign workers. Under the new 2026 policy, patients must pay upfront at the clinic and claim reimbursement afterward via the SSO app or office. The new rules also introduce expanded budgets!

Key SSO Dental Benefits for Expats:

  • Basic annual allowance: 900 baht per calendar year (cleaning, fillings, extractions)
  • Separate wisdom tooth budget: Up to 2,500 baht (no longer shares the 900 baht limit!)
  • Expanded denture benefits up to 6,000 baht, plus a 900 baht repair allowance.
  • New dental implant coverage for edentulous (fully toothless) patients.

Which Foreigners Qualify for Thai SSO Dental Benefits?

As a foreign worker in Thailand, you're eligible if you:

  • Have a valid work permit and are legally employed
  • Are insured under Article 33 (private company employees)
  • Have contributed to Social Security for at least 3 months within the 15 months prior to receiving service.
  • If you've recently left your job, you can still claim benefits for 6 months after termination.

Covered Dental Procedures Under the New 2026 Rules

1. Basic Services (900 Baht Annual Limit)

  • Professional teeth cleaning (scaling)
  • Dental fillings
  • Tooth extractions

You can check our standard dental treatment fees at this link.

2. Wisdom Tooth Surgery (New Separate Budget!)

Previously included in the 900 baht cap, wisdom tooth procedures now have their own separate allowance:

  • Simple surgery: Reimburse up to 1,500 baht/tooth
  • Complex surgery (requiring bone removal): Reimburse up to 2,500 baht/tooth

3. Denture Coverage (Increased up to 6,000 Baht)

The benefit limit has been raised to cover between 1,500 - 6,000 baht depending on the number of teeth and denture type. A new allowance of 900 baht/time has also been added for denture repairs. (New dentures can be claimed every 5 years).

4. Dental Implants (For Fully Edentulous Patients)

A brand-new benefit for patients who have lost all teeth and cannot wear traditional removable dentures. SSO now covers 17,500 baht for surgery and 3,300 baht for the implant kit, including follow-up care.

Frequently Asked Questions: Thai SSO Dental Benefits for Foreigners

Can foreigners use Social Security for dental care in Thailand?

Yes! If you work legally in Thailand with a work permit and have contributed to SSO for at least 3 months (within a 15-month timeframe), you can access the exact same dental benefits as Thai nationals.

Which dental clinics in Bangkok speak English?

CDC Dental (with locations in Saphan Khwai and Ladprao) offers English-speaking services. We will provide all the official documents you need to successfully claim your SSO reimbursement online or in person.

Do I need to pay upfront?

Yes, under current policies, patients pay the treatment fee at the clinic first. You then use the medical certificate and receipt we provide to claim your money back from the SSO.

What dental treatment is covered by Thai SSO for expats?

General treatments (cleaning, fillings, normal extractions) are covered up to 900 baht annually. Wisdom tooth surgery now has a separate allowance of up to 2,500 baht. Dentures and dental implants are also covered under separate budgets.

Do I need my work permit at the clinic?

No, you don't need to bring your work permit to the dental clinic. You only need your passport to register at the clinic. When submitting your claim to SSO, you will need your passport and bank book copy.

What happens to my SSO dental benefits if I change jobs in Thailand?

You can continue using your benefits as long as you maintain SSO status. If you leave employment, benefits remain valid for 6 months after your resignation date.

If I forgot to use my SSO dental benefits this year, can I carry them over to next year?

No, the annual dental benefit (such as the 900 baht general limit) does not carry over. If you don't claim it within the calendar year, it expires and resets on January 1st.

What if my dental treatment fee is less than 900 baht?

If your dental treatment costs less than the 900 baht annual allowance, you can claim the exact amount you paid and keep the remaining balance to use for other dental treatments before the end of the calendar year.
